Eggs have been a vital part of man’s diet, well, ever since animals started laying eggs. Asians were the first one to eat the eggs from their chickens around 7500 BC. Because eggs do not only make man’s appetite content, but it also gives it a healthy boost up. The most common type of egg is the chicken egg.

Characteristics

The chicken egg is oblong in shape with the top end smaller than the bottom. It has basically three parts, the shell, the yolk, and the egg white. The shell surrounds both the yolk and the egg white. It is white in color although some may be brown or pink. It is thin and hard in structure. The yolk is surrounded by the egg white which acts also as its protector and cushion. It is very important to know the egg nutritional value so that the person can enjoy eating it without the fear of being unhealthy. Eggs are very nutritious. In fact, it is one of the best nutritional foods that money can ever buy. The egg yolk comprises vitamins D, A, and E. Vitamin D is rarely found in food and luckily, egg does contain it. It also contains vitamins B2 and B12. Egg contains most of the essential vitamins except Vitamin C. The egg yolk is being criticized for its high amount of cholesterol usually up to 300 mg.  Cholesterol is not at all bad since it helps cell membranes be flexible and it also helps produce sex hormones. But it is not a dietary necessity since the body can synthesize them. That is why moderate consumption of the egg yolk is recommended. The egg also contains a huge amount of fat which takes up to eleven percent of the whole. All of these fats are found in the yolk since the egg white does not contain any fat. The egg white is probably the healthiest part of the egg. Twelve percent of the egg is basically made out of protein and these are found in the egg white. That is why those who needed protein in their strenuous activities often result to the egg white for their diet. Now that this egg nutritional value is given, eating eggs with this knowledge will never be the same again.
